The 1966 to '67 St Gregory's basketball team finished with a record of 18 to 9. They were the Class C Erie Diocesan champions, the PCIAA Class C western regional champions, and the PCIAA Class C state runner-up. After a 7 to 6 start, the Crusaders went 11-2 prior to the state final game. The Crusaders lost to the heavily favored defending state champions, Hazleton St Gabriel, 68-60 at Gannon auditorium. St Gabriel won the 1966 state championship by 40 points and returned all 5 starters. St Greg’s was coached by Pete White. Coach White went on to coach at Williamsport high school for 20 years where he won 17 consecutive AAAA titles, a state title in 1984, and was named big school coach of the year by The Associated Press in 1995 when his team was state runner up.
