The 1962 NE track and field team was the first team in Erie County or District 10 to win a class B PIAA state championship in history. The team was 11 and 0 in dual meets and won the ECL for the 4th year in a row and its 1st district 10 championship. Qualified to travel to Penn State, the team was composed of Bill Ramsdell, Bill Wilkins, Art Norman, Larry Youngs, Harold Lynn, Doug Burch, Al Klenz, Dick Kennedy, Karl Anderson, Bob Lee, Steve Rouse, and John Bemiss. Bill Ramsdell was state champion in the mile. The 880 relay team of Doug Burch, Al Klenz, Harold Lynn, and Dick Kennedy were also state champions. Doug Burch was 3rd in the 100, Al Klenz was second in the 180 low hurdles, the mile relay team of Harold Lynn, Dick Kennedy, Bob Lee, and Karl Andzerson took 3rd for a total of 20 points to outduel the powerhouse Camp Hill.
